Chapter 784
Marguerite had barely settled into her office chair when her phone rang. It was Chuck.
"Marguerite, got sintel. Silas is this big-shot from an international venture capital group, heavily invests in
various enterprises. He's only recently popped up on the scene here; nobody had heard of him before. Plus, the
guy's a bit of an oddball, not much of a talker, and, to put it mildly, not winning any beauty contests, which kinda
freaks people out."
Marguerite's brows knitted together in thought, her fingers automatically moving to massage her temples.
Silas an oddball and not much of a talker? Why then did his behavior towards her feel so blatantly forward and
unrefined? His movements, his words - all too bold. And yet, she couldn't deny a strange attraction to him!
Every ttheir eyes met, Marguerite's heart ached as if seeing Frederick again, tearing her apart inside.
With a firm set to her jaw, Marguerite momentarily shelved her feelings for Silas, exhaling softly before speaking
again.
"Senda picture of him before the burn."
"A burn? Marguerite, | found no record of Silas ever being burned."
Stunned by this revelation, Marguerite's expression froze, taking a moment to find her voice again.

"It's not about not finding it; there's literally no record! People close to him do say his facial scars are from burns,
but I noticed he spent the past few months in Vespera. Vespera had several fire incidents over the last half year,
but none of the victims were foreign nationals."
What was going on here?
No records of a foreign national being burned, yet Silas had those scars - why would he lie?
Lost in thought, Marguerite then heard Chuck trying to piece things together himself.
"Though, given Silas's standing on the international stage, erasing a burn record would be a piece of cake for
him."
Why hide a burn?
Clearly, Silas was a man of secrets.
"What else did you find?"
Marguerite could hear the sound of car horns through the phone; Chuck seemed to be driving and hurriedly
informed her.
"I'll drop by Poppy Petal Fragrances later to fill you in. Got sthings to sort out here."
Without further ado, Marguerite hung up, and almost immediately, Violet walked in with a sheet of A4 paper, her
face aglow with joy: "Marguerite, I'm here to resign."
Glancing down, Marguerite realized Violet had already prepared her resignation letter.
"What's going on?"
"Marguerite, I'm getting engaged in a few days. I've decided to be a homemaker."
Rubbing her temples, Marguerite was caught off guard. Violet's departure would leave a key position vacant.
But what could she do? Everyone has their own path to follow, and she couldn't really object.
It looked like she'd have to rely on Chuck for help going forward.
With a resigned look, Marguerite managed a smile for Violet, "Congratulations, wish you a blissful marriage."
As she spoke, Marguerite signed off on the resignation letter.
"Marguerite, aren't you going to askto stay? I've been with you for half a year after all!"
"Ask you to stay? As if | could compete with your boyfriend! I'm not about to make myself miserable."
Violet, a bit embarrassed by Marguerite's blunt honesty, blushed and quickly went to brew a pot of coffee,
leaving Marguerite with scaring advice.
"Marguerite, take care of yourself while I'm gone. Remember to take your supplements on time, and don't
overwork yourself."
Marguerite was genuinely touched. Trustworthy people were rare in her life - aside from her family, there were
only Miley Goldie and Violet.
