Chapter 407

Vespera couldn't help but glance at Dominic's phone. The caller ID showed that it was a call from Evelyn.

Calling first thing in the morning? It was obvious that Dominic and Evelyn hadn't finished catching up last night.

Dominic picked up his phone. Noticing Vespera's gaze, he briefly met her eyes, but she quickly turned her head

away as if she hadn't seen anything.

Dominic frowned and handed his phone to Vespera. He asked, "Ms. Gildon, do you want to answer it for me?"

Vespera was rendered speechless. Then, she gathered her breakfast and walked out of the dining area without

looking back.

Dominic watched Vespera leave angrily and let out a chuckle before his expression darkened. He cleared his

throat and answered the call. He said, "Evelyn."

Evelyn's voice sounded from the other end of the line. "Dominic, about what you mentioned last night, asking

shouldn't get involved with that crowd. It's dangerous. You're a friend to us, and we don't want you in any

danger."

Dominic replied, "I know what I'm doing. Don't worry."

Evelyn responded, "Alright then. Cover tonight. We'll help set up a meeting with him."

Dominic thanked Evelyn, and she said, "There's no need to thank me. | heard that you've got a girlfriend now,

and you're pretty smitten. Vance and | would love to meet the woman who has captured your heart."

The word-girlfriend-echoed in Dominic's mind. The more he thought about it, the more his face darkened. He

said, "I don't think she ever wanted to be my girlfriend. It was all just my wishful thinking."

A long pause followed on the line. Evelyn could hear the disappointment in his tone. Was he already

heartbroken?

She quickly changed the topic. She gave him details about the person and confirmed the meeting time. Then,

the call ended.

Dominic got up and walked out of the dining area. He made his way to the window and saw Vespera sitting alone

in the courtyard, quietly having her breakfast.

He didn't go out to disturb her. Instead, he just stood behind the glass and watched her silently. What could he

do to help her feel satisfied and at ease?

He wondered if there was any way to help her forget this version of him, the man who had let her down and

whom she treated like a game.

Meanwhile, Vespera sliced her sausage with her fork. Then, she smashed the slices into small pieces.

She cursed in her head, "He has an ex-girlfriend in Seloria and a first love in Londarion. He's so busy!"

After venting her frustration with her food, Vespera calmed down. She had a feeling that things were about to

end.

In their relationship, Dominic had always been the one in control, always planning ahead and doing more. On the

other hand, Vespera was never fully committed and always ready to leave.

But now, it seemed like he didn't want to continue the relationship anymore. He must be tired of it, and maybe

that was for the best. There was nothing wrong with that.
