Chapter 1158: "There's no need to thank me. I wish I could do more to help with Joy's situation." Denver hesitated for a moment, and then pulled out another small box from his pocket. “This is for you." Hadley raised an eyebrow, curious. "What is it this time?" "A cinnabar bracelet." Denver opened the box to reveal a string of rich red beads. "You've been having trouble sleeping lately, haven't you? Cinnabar is believed to have calming properties. It might help.” Hadley let out a soft chuckle. Her sleepless nights were due to Joy's upcoming surgery, but she had to admit, Denver's thoughtfulness touched her deeply.

"Thank you," she said, her eyes glistening with emotion.

Denver really was a kind soul.

"May I put it on for you?" "Alright." With that, Denver carefully slipped the bracelet onto Hadley's wrist.

Inside the room, Eric glanced over, but then quickly looked away. He lowered his head, scooped a large spoonful of food, and shoved it into his mouth.

What was wrong with the food? Why did it taste so bitter? He speared svegetables next and stuffed them into his mouth. They were bland. Tasteless. Still, he kept eating, bite after bite, until his mouth was full.

But the bitterness lingered. Thick and unrelenting.

That night, Eric stayed in the inner room of the hospital suite with Joy. Melba had returned to Hadley's apartment on Milland Road and planned to cback early the next morning. Hadley slept in the adjacent room.

By midnight, Joy was fast asleep.

Eric slouched on the sofa nearby, half-asleep himself, when he heard faint voices outside the room.

It sounded like a nurse.

"Miss Pearson, is Mr. Jenkins here with you?" the voice asked.

"Brady's not in his room?" Hadley asked back, her voice flickering with surprise.

Brady had been around earlier, but he'd slipped away a while back. It was so late-wasn't he supposed to be asleep by now? "No, he isn't," the nurse said, giving a small shake of her head. She'd found his room empty during her rounds, which was why she cto ask.

"What's happening?" Footsteps padded across the room as Eric stepped into view, drawn by the sound of voices.

Hadley turned to face him, a strange tension creeping into her chest. It's late, and the nurse said Brady's not in his room."

"Let's not jump to conclusions," he said, keeping his tone Steady. Did you try calling him?"

"Not so far," the nurse answered before she could. "When I saw his bed was empty, I thought maybe he chere to see Joy." "I'll call now!" She rushed to snatch her phone and then punched in Brady's number.

But the response made her stomach drop.

It went straight to voicemail.
