A flush crept up Vespera's cheeks. She shot Dominic a glare. There were only two of them in the room, yet it felt like an audience was watching. Lowering her voice, she warned, "We're at work. Stop flirting." But Dominic pulled the document closer again. He leaned his head near hers and murmured, "Cup to the penthouse tonight and visit the cat. You haven't seen it in days. It said it misses you." "I'll go, but I'm not staying the night," responded Vespera.
Her eyes drifted to his lips, and her breath grew warm.
Dominic's breath brushed against her cheek as he said, "Ms. Gildon, you truly do have the makings of a heartbreaker." In response, Vespera said, "Don't say that. I might start believing it." And then, bold as ever, she darted in and stole a kiss. Snatching the document from his hand, she turned and fled like a startled rabbit.
Dominic chuckled, the sweetness of her kiss lingering on his lips.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtVespera headed downstairs and handed the document to Alex. On the way, curiosity got the better of her. She peeked inside.
To her surprise, it was the approval for the reassessment of funds for the Vortex Group's project. It was the sfund Dominic had been withholding for weeks. Alex had fought relentlessly to get it released, even taking it up with Samuel multiple times.
Until today, the funds had remained frozen. So, what changed? Did Dominic finally cto an agreement with Austin? From Luke's reaction this morning, he clearly hadn't heard anything.
Vespera handed the file to Alex.
Alex thanked, "Thank you for delivering it personally, Ms. Gildon." He was in a good mood. He must have already received a call from Dominic.
Vespera gave him a polite smile and responded, "You're too kind, Mr. Smith. I was just following orders. I'll let you get back to your work." She turned to leave, but Alex stopped her.
He called after her, grinning, "Ms. Gildon, have you heard? Nancy is being transferred back to headquarters." Vespera smiled to herself and thought that Alex was fishing for gossip She nodded and answered calmly, "I know about that. Ms Acosta messagedsaying she'll be back tomorrow." Alex asked, "She messaged you?" "Yeah. We knew each other from back when I worked in Seloria. We have each other's contact." As Vespera caught the flicker of surprise on his face, she smiled slyly.
"You two seem pretty close," said Alex, clearly thrown off.
All executives knew who Nancy was and her past with Dominic. An ex and the current flgetting along? It was unlikely.
Alex figured that Vespera was just bluffing, probably trying to play nice because she knew she couldn't compete.
With wide and innocent eyes, Vespera responded, "I wouldn't say we aren't close. Otherwise, why would she message me, right? By the way, hasn't she contacted you yet?" That shut Alex up. Vespera then feigned surprise and added, "You're the vice president. Maybe she forgot? Anyway, now you know, so it's all good." "Ms. Gildon, maybe there's another reason she reached out to you. There are sthings I 't thin; et you're aware of yet. Just be careful," said Alex with a meaningful smile.
Vespera replied, "Thanks for the heads-up, Mr. Smith. If there's nothing else, I'll get going."
She sidestepped the bait with ease.
She didn't ask what Alex was m referring to nor did she pretend to care, which only seemed to frustrate him more.
The moment Vespera stepped out of Alex's office, her smile vanished, It seemed like a stormy was brewing. like a stormXwas Nancy hadn't even arrived yet, people were already gearing up for the . Why did people love chaos so much? and
